Avon Haul

March 21, 2009

I love Avon ever since I was a kid. My Lola was a makeup artist, and in her heyday she worked at the CCP and did Lea Salonga’s face, among other movie and theater stars at that time. I remember going through her traincase and finding tons of Avon stuff in it along with high-end brands like Yves St Laurent and Guerlain. Actually, before she did makeup, she was an Avon lady. My mom is too, technically, but she doesn’t sell stuff. She just likes to use the discount—and guess who else! Me!

Anyway, here’s what I got like, last month pa. I didn’t blog about it since I am sooo busy with school (among other things, like browsing through new makeup, surfing blogs, and surprise surprise, reading new books). I don’t know how to go about reviewing them…I know how! I’ll make one post each on the lip stuff and the eye stuff! Here goes.

From left to right: Avon Perfect Wear All-Day Lipstick in Vintage Pink (P235), Perfect Wear in Sunset Rose (P235), Glazewear Lipstick in Nude Glitz (P235).

Swatches: from left to right, Nude Glitz, Sunset Rose, Vintage PInk

The Avon Perfect Wear lipstick range is a “new” collection: “new” because I think this was an old line back by popular demand. I like this kind of lipstick because it’s really pigmented and DOES stay a long time. However, don’t expect it to last all day as promised. Once you, say, eat lunch, only a strong stain will remain. This is perfect for girls who hate reapplying lippies, like me. The price is friendly, the product works. Only problem? The shades are unappealing. Vintage Pink doesn’t look like the picture on the catalogue. In person, it’s a rather hot pink shade, which is cute. Sunset Rose is a dark reddish brownish color which happens to not suit my skin tone for some reason.

Overall, the Avon Perfect Wear line is good, but I don’t think I’ll repurchase since all the other shades look like they’re made for women aged thirty to fifty years old. I’m only 21.

The Glazewear Lipstick is more interesting. The one I got, Nude Glitz, is a nice peachy nude shade. It’s a lipstick that works like a lipgloss, only with more staying power. It does look like a glaze and delivers a nice glossy finish that smooths out fine lines on my lips. I think it’s perfect for summer, or if you’re just going for the natural look. It’s not overwhelming, but it draws attention. I like this product a lot. My only complaint is that it’s rather drying (I have dry lips), so make sure to apply a balm underneath. Overall a great product plus the shade selection is updated and would work for teens and 20-somethings.

Up next, review of the mascara and eyeliner!
