What is the best eyeliner ever?

February 8, 2009

I am currently on the lookout for the best black eyeliner that’s no more than P1500. I really want a MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack but MAC Marionnaud still doesn’t have stocks! So sad. I’m also really interested in the Clinique cream eyeliner—does anyone know where I can buy one and for how much?

In my search, I found Prestige’s waterproof eyeliner pencil. It’s a very good, and I mean a VERY good dupe of MAC Powerpoint pencils. Both eyeliners look the same (black wood, not brown), has the same amount (1.2 grams), and both glide on like a dream. There are only two main differences: MAC Powerpoints cost P850 while Prestige Waterproof eyeliners are only P315 at Beauty Bar. Also, MAC Powerpoint beats Prestige in terms of staying power. I swatched both last night and the MAC Powerpoint is still in my hand. It has faded into a grey line though, unlike the MAC Liquidlast which is still as fresh as day.

Aaaanyway—wish me luck. I hope MAC restocks the Fluidline very soon! I’m running out of black eyeliner. I think I’m going to buy Prestige in the meantime for backup.

I agree that the Prestige waterproof eyeliner is good! I’ve been using it for 2 years now and I adore it!

Walgreens here in the US has discontinued carrying Prestige so I’ve been buying up the eyeliners like candy at $1.29/each.

The only other eyeliners I’ve used are Rimmel (was ok but didn’t last as long) and NYX (not as soft as I had hoped for). Covergirl/Maybelline, I used years ago and blah, didn’t like.

If you didn’t see the Clinique one its probably kept under the drawers try asking the Marionnaud Sale Asistants or its probably out too… but try MUFE Aqua eyes gel liner and MUFE Aqua eyes pencils…Bobbi Brown has a good gel liner too… Shiseido also have a good gel liner… Not sure if Shiseido has a counter inside Marionnaud but Shiseido has a counter inside the SM Department Store in MOA… and MUFE can be found inside Marionnaud and while you’re there ask for other brands of cream/gel liners and try it foryourself… you may find a brand that would suite your needs and cost less…btw Bobbi Brown can be found at Rustan’s Makati, I dunno if Shang has Bobbi Brown….Try to stay away with Smashbox liners…

Here are the list of some of the tried and proven good cream/gel liners:

Clinique Brush On Cream Liner (Doesnt budge/smudge and I have mine for a long time now and the liner inside the pot doesnt dry even the ones on the sides.. meaning all can be used… no wastage)
MUFE Aqua Eyes (both its gel liner and pencils are excellent both doesnt smudge or budge even in the waterline)
MAC Fluidlines (doesnt smudge or budge…avialable in many colors…)
Shiseido Gel Liners (doesnt smudge or budge… but its teeny bit difference in consistency…but I think this would easily dry up)
Bobbi Brown Gel liners (havent tried this personally but this was recommended to me a lot of times and read good reviews)

nikki: i am not a huge fan of prestige but this particular eyeliner looks really promising. and for the price, you cant go wrong!

nikita: oooooh. i read makeup alley and everyone raved about it as well!

dustbunny: thanks for the recos. im going to visit marionnaud again soon. will also check shiseido! also, i asked the lady at MUFE but they dont have black Aqua eyes anymore. :( sabi niya they havent restocked for some time now.

laarni: i saw that ad too! i think the eyeliner is in pencil form though. nothing wrong with that, actually. i also swatched Clinique pencil liners along with MAC and i must say that they performed as well as, if not even a little better than MAC.

I agree with Dustbunny, the Clinique Brush on Cream Liner is great - very pigmented, doesn’t budge or smudge! Do try it.

I’ve tried Clinique’s Cream eyeliner, Bobbi Brown’s gel eyeliner, and MUFE aqua eyes eyeliner.

They all work really well from my experience. Here’s a rundown on their quality:

CLINIQUE: Last time I bought this was in Rustan’s Makati. Their stock is very limited and they have two shades: Egyptian (metallic dark golden brown) and Obsidian (metallic black). I bought the Egyptian shade and it looked really nice and natural with minimal smudging. Plus, it comes with a cute mini eyeliner brush! I don’t recall the price, but I think it was P900+

MUFE AQUA EYES: This is probably the best pencil eyeliner I’ve tried. It doesn’t smudge AT ALL when I put it on my upper lid. On the lower lid, it sorta fades (not smudges!) after several hours, but you don’t get messy panda eyes at least.

BOBBI BROWN: This eyeliner stays put, but it’s more expensive than clinique and doesn’t come with a brush. But it works very well if you want a bold dramatic look.

fashion 21 liquid liner (100PHP) - heavy duty waterproof, smudgeproof, dirt cheap liquid liner. i prefer using the point liner rather than the brush.

art deco liquid liner pen (around 800PHP) - i love the dispenser -pointy pentel pen. fairly long-wearing. not exactly cry & rain proof but is still my go to liner. :)

richelle: i have tried the fashion 21 liquid liner because of the raves everywhere but i find it scary! its too hard to remove, plus i find it difficult to apply (even with the point time, thats the one i got). i actually envy people who can do a straight line with a liquid eyeliner. im more at home lining with a brush or with a pencil.

i’ve tried the art deco liquid liner pen (i love art deco!) and it does look interesting. kaya lang wala na silang black. also, if im going to pay that much, i might as well get MAC. :D

shelly: thanks for the recos! i want the acqua eyes but theres no more black in the MUFE in moa. clinique doesnt have a black cream eyeliner anymore, only grey.

pearl: aww, thats ok. btw, are your gel liners the one like those in coastal scents?
