Review: Ellana Mineral Foundation and Finishing Powder
January 21, 2009I really love the Artdeco Rich Treatment foundation but it doesn’t love me back. Why? Because the whole line is only for beige undertones. I’m rather yellow so you can see how it couldn’t work for me. Otherwise, it’s really perfect. I bought two bottles, one in #15 and the other in #10 (two shades lighter) but none matched me. I would have tried #12 but I know it’ll still be beige so even if it could be my shade, it still isn’t my undertone. I sold both foundations to two lucky friends. I’m soo envious! That should have been me with the awesome foundation! Bah.
So I guess I have to move on with my life. I have to say though, I don’t want to try another liquid foundation right now, or ever (drama!). My friend told me to just get a MAC foundation but I feel that it’s too thick and matte for my mineral makeup-spoiled skin. Right now I’ve been using Ellana foundation and finishing powder and they really work for me. They feel like nothing on my face, I don’t get breakouts, and they’re easy to apply (I use a powder brush similar to Bare Escentuals Flawless Face brush, or Bloom’s powder brush). Best of all, they’re super affordable!
I just realized, Almond Coffee Cream is for beige undertones! 0_o But it’s ok, it doesn’t show since it’s translucent.
I have a perfect shade match with Ellana Hazelnut. I use the Intensive cover version which is P190 for 2.5 grams and P420 for 6 grams if I’m not mistaken. I top it off with the Almond finishing powder in the translucent version, 6 grams for P280. These two last me all day and they melt beautifully on my skin. However, I need to blot every two hours or so. Newly applied, they look rather powdery which is why I use the ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder afterwards.
As the saying goes, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it! I think I’m going to stick to Ellana for a while, unless you girls can recommend some really good foundation I can try.

i think my pics just distort the actual color of my skin, but check this picture out: http://projectvanity.i.ph/photo/d/748-2/IMG_7286.JPG its the most accurate pic of my skintone.
to save yourself the tragedy of buying the wrong color of foundation, ellana actually can send you free samples of two foundations and a blush (1g each i think?) for free! check out their site ellanaminerals.com for details. they can also suggest your foundation shade if you answer a few questions. cool no?
anyhow, thanks so much for visiting!
Posted by projectvanity at February 24, 2009, 7:31 pmchecked your pic already and yeah, you really have lighter skintone. i think i got medium light with olive undertone, based on the chart they sent me. i requested for my free samples already and they’re amazingly fast! im hoping my freebies would arrive within the week. what’s nicer about ellana is that they’re really cheap! my current mineral make up is l’oreal but i got it from my mother for free. hehehe.
ill come back regularly ha. can i also link u up?
no prob. ^_^ always happy to be of service, kaith.

hi, just bloghopping when i found your site. i love it here! =D you’re so helpful and informative.
i have a question (yeah, main reason why i posted a comment. *giggles*). i am not so sure about my skin tone and skin undertone. i know, i know, i might be hanged for this. but im kinda thinking of medium light with yellow undertone but looking at you and your choice of ellana foundation made me think twice. for one, your skin’s lighter than mine so now i am thinking i might be a medium with yellow undertone? is there like a way for me to know my real color? hahaha.
